COW ETIQUETTE – STAFF EXPECTATIONS for Mobile Lab Use, Damage Reporting, & Maintenance

Math & Science Labs

· Are to be used and reserved only by teachers of that specific content - unless otherwise negotiated by the subject team leader.

· Math and science teachers need to make reservations for use, which should be noted on the Reservation Google Doc - but also note that admin needs or testing may preempt any reservation.

REPORTING DAMAGES TO COMPUTERS ON WHEELS (COWS)

· Email Ms. Kathleen_Bell and cc Gwyneth Jones the following: identify the problem, laptop #, COW #, and AV tag # which is located on the silver sticker of every laptop

· Place Post-It on laptop that has the problem so the next person is alerted

*This applies to first-hand and inherited (no prior notice) problems with laptops.

LENGTH OF TIME FOR CONSECUTIVE USE OF COWS

· 5 DAYS. Any time exceeding 5 days requires Admin approval.

WAYS TO MAKE THE USE OF LAPTOPS A GOOD EXPERIENCE FOR THE NEXT USERS

At end of class:

· Before students log out, make sure that they close all open programs and windows

· Please make sure students log out, and let the log out finish before they close the computer - this could cause computer issues later if not done properly.

· Assign one or two students at the end of class to check that all of the computers are fully plugged in to charge

At end of day:

· Have students shut down computers

A few extra rules of the road:
  • Please do NOT erase the name or reservation of another staff member on the calendar.
  • MHMS & HCPSS testing days may preempt any teacher reservations. We will try to block testing dates out for you so that you can plan around these times, but things could crop up last minute as we try and accommodate all of our online assessments.
  • Please be considerate and return (and plug in!) the mobile lab back to its home base or COW Parking Lot in a timely manner.
  • For best charging, shut down at the end the day & recharge between classes. PLEASE NOTE: The carts cascade charging from top shelf to bottom shelf.
  • Please make sure the COW laptops have ALL been accounted for, plugged in securely, & the lab plugged into the wall for re-charging. Thank you for being a great team member!
  • Teachers MUST be logged into GAFE to sign up. Link Above. This is the direct link to the Google sign up spreadsheet. I will NOT work if you're not signed in first.
  • Cow Mobile Lab Combination Lock: 5897
  • TEACHERS! To Log into these machines you have to put in the USERNAME: hcpss\yourname EX hcpss\gajones & REGULAR Password

Got Charge? QUICK TROUBLE SHOOTING TIPS
The cart alternates charging, cascading between the top and bottom shelf – do not be alarmed. If not charging, reach in the back of the cart & reset the power strip.

What happens when COW's don't cascade?
Open the back of the computer cart using combination 5897, check to see if the reset button is on and not in the off position. If that's not the problem it's more than likely not plugged into the main source -which is a white power strip inside of the COW, this is what charges the top row of computers. You will be looking for a thick black cord from the bottom row, this may be difficult to locate as you can't open the lower back of the COW's. When you locate the thick power cord plug it into the top white looking power surge on the top row. This should take care of the problem. If it doesn't work, please email the Media Center.

When in doubt – restart the laptop. A hard restart may be necessary.
If a student forgets a password it should be written down in their agenda book on their birthday – Directions to reset a password are on this wiki! ;-)

FIXING GAFE CALENDAR

  1. Highlight the cells that have the validation. You may choose multiple cells at once it doesn’t affect the info in the cell.
  2. Select data >validation
  3. Change the range number to 75 instead of 65. That way you have room to grow.
